Road Construction Updates
Newburgh Road from Plymouth Road to Ann Arbor Trail
Mark Anthony Contracting, Inc. crews will perform concrete removal/replacement, guardrail replacement and traffic signal modernization on a 0.47-mile stretch of Newburgh Road. Newburgh Road between Plymouth Road and Ann Arbor Trail will be reduced to one lane in each direction traveling on the existing southbound Newburgh Road travel lane starting on Monday, March 30. Traffic to eastbound Ann Arbor Trail and Eastbound Ann Arbor Road will be closed. Motorists will need to follow detour signage to access Ann Arbor Trail east of Newburgh Road. Closure will last approximately 10 weeks, then traffic will shift to the northbound Newburgh Road travel lanes. Motorists are urged to find alternate routes to avoid this area. This project is being administered by the City of Livonia Engineering Department in cooperation with Wayne County.
Five Mile/Levan and Newburgh/Lyndon Signals Project
Michigan Department of Transportation (MDOT) crews will modernize traffic signals, as well as complete concrete curb and gutter, sidewalk and sidewalk ramps work, and pavement markings, all on Five Mile Road at Levan Road and also on Newburgh Road at Lyndon Street. Intermittent and single daily lane closures and shifts will occur, as well as short-term pedestrian route detours and intermittent sidewalk closures. The project is estimated to start March 9, with traffic reopening June 26 prior to the final completion Oct. 16.
M-14/I-96 project resumes in Wayne County in late February
The Michigan Department of Transportation (MDOT) is returning to rebuild the westbound side of M-14/I-96 from Sheldon Road to Newburgh Road, along with numerous interchange ramps, in the city of Livonia and Plymouth Township, Wayne County. Work is set to begin in late February and be finished at the end of the year, with restoration work planned in 2027. During construction, traffic will be shifted onto the newly built eastbound side of M-14/I-96 with two lanes open in each direction.
All work is weather-dependent and includes:
- Rebuilding westbound M-14/I-96 from Sheldon Road to Newburgh Road.
- Rebuilding ramps at Newburgh Road, I-275 and Sheldon Road (Exit 20).
