Gunnar Birkerts- Michigan Architect of International Renown

Join the Historic Preservation Commission on Wednesday, Oct. 13 at 7 p.m. at the Alexander Blue House for a panel presentation on Gunnar Birkerts, an award winning architect who designed many buildings in the Metro-Detroit area including our very own Alfred Noble Library! This is a free event.

Martin Schwartz is Associate Professor of Architecture in the College of Architecture and Design at Lawrence Technological University.  He has a special interest in daylight in architecture, and his book Gunnar Birkerts, Metaphoric Modernist, was published in 2009.

Dale Gyure is Department Chair and Professor of Architecture in the College of Architecture and Design at Lawrence Technological University. He has published articles, essays, and book reviews in numerous journals, as well as books on architecture, and has served on Michigan’s State Historic Preservation Review Board.

Anthony Gholz is a retired Birmingham architect who spent 24 years in partnership with Gunnar Birkerts.  Prior to that was a member of the Taliesin Fellowship of the Frank Lloyd Wright Foundation.  In retirement he has written two books on the architectural history of Michigan golf courses
