History Lecture Series- Detroit During the Holocaust
Monday, May 8, 2023
Metro Detroit's Jewish community occupied a difficult position during World War II, caught between trying to help friends and family escape the horrors
of Europe, and demonstrating loyalty to the U.S. government. This talk from Catherine Cangany, PhD., considers what Detroit Jews knew about the Holocaust and when, how they responded to the US war effort, and what effects the war had on Detroit, including for the thousands of Holocaust survivors who settled here.
