The City of Livonia is once again among the Safest Cities in Michigan.

Livonia places within the Top 20 cities on the list, based on FBI crime statistics of both property and violent crime rates, plus the ratio of law enforcement officers in a community. The safest cities list was created by

Earlier this year, Livonia was also honored as one of the Top 100 Safest Cities in the U.S., using a similar formula created by

“These ratings reaffirm what we know,” said Mayor Dennis K. Wright. “Our community is among the safest anywhere, thanks to the hard work of the men and women of the Livonia Police Department. We also know that our Citizens make it a priority to support public safety in so many ways.”

Livonia Police Chief Curtis Caid said Livonia’s citizenry and its police force work together to create a successful community partnership.

“Livonia Police Department has an outstanding staff of law enforcement professionals, but we can’t do our job in a vacuum,” Chief Caid said. “The only way a police agency can have success in its mission to safeguard the community is working hand in hand with the community that we serve.”

There are numerous examples where residents assist and work with the Police Department to improve safety.

Of course, there are Neighborhood Watch programs. But technology offers new ways to make that teamwork thrive. Livonia was the second community in Michigan to utilize the “Neighbors” app with Ring Video Doorbell systems, where residents can upload video to assist the police department in solving crime when it does occur.

At the same time, Livonia Police use their wide-reaching Facebook presence to help track down criminals by posting those images and videos.

“Engaging our community through our annual Citizens Police Academy, the Community Emergency Response Team (CERT), the business community and more, all lends to Livonia being one of the Nation’s most desired places to live, work and raise a family,” Chief Caid said.
