DPW Circulating the City to Collect Storm Damaged Limbs

DPW chipper

DPW Crews continue to circulate the City providing chipper service for brush and branches as a result of the ice and snow storms. They are working 12-hour days, six days a week, getting through the City as quickly as possible. It’s a slow-moving process due to the large volume of downed limbs. We don’t expect to have everything collected until at least early to mid-May. We will get to everyone as soon as we can! We appreciate your patience!

Tree branches and tree limbs must be longer than four feet in length. Branches should be stacked with all of the cut ends in one direction, preferably towards the street, for chipper service. From now until Memorial Weekend, it is not necessary to request service. Chipper crews continually circulate through neighborhoods approximately every fifteen working days. Stumps, logs, vines or roots cannot be placed out for chipper disposal. June through September, requests must be submitted when your brush is at the curb and may be done by calling the Department of Public Works at (734) 466-2655, choosing the brush option and leaving a voicemail with your address, or emailing your brush request to brush@livonia.gov.

Brush and branches may also be disposed of on your weekly trash collection day provided it is broken down and placed in garbage cans, paper compost bags or tied into bundles of less than four feet in length and less than fifty pounds. Yard waste collection has resumed for the 2023 season.  There is a limit of five bundles per week. Separated yard waste collection service in containers or bundles will continue on your regular trash collection day through Dec. 8.

Livonia residents may dispose of wood waste for free at the Wood Waste Disposal Facility on Glendale Avenue east of Farmington Road.  For more information, please visit our Wood Waste Disposal Facility webpage.
