Become a Certified Lifeguard

It’s no secret there’s a national lifeguard shortage that also applies here in Livonia and limits our ability to open all our amenities for the full range of hours. What can community members do to help? Become a certified lifeguard and join our great staff!

That’s what one senior did in Kansas and it’s been a great experience for her so far. She wanted to make sure children had the same access and experiences she was able to as a child.

If you’re interested in getting certified, we have a course running from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Friday-Sunday, July 16-18, at the Kirksey Recreation Center. Email Stephanie at smanoogian@livonia.gov for details and register online.

Show some Love from Livonia

If you're looking to support small and independent businesses that are based out of Livonia, join us from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sunday, July 11, at Greenmead Historical Park's Simmons-Hill House lawn for Love from Livonia.

This business showcase is free for Livonia vendors to participate in and free for patrons to attend. Businesses will be able to sell and market themselves and their products in a casual environment.

Businesses looking to register should call Maureen at (248) 477-7375. Picnic tables provided, but businesses would need to bring their own pop-up tent, if desired.

Travel Through Time with Wedding Attire at Happily Ever After

If you’re a fashion aficionado with a flair for the past, we may have the event for you. Join us for Happily Ever After, a multi-generational showcase of wedding fashion from the 1800s through today.

The exhibit will be open 2-8 p.m. Thursday, July 15, and 2-6 p.m. Friday, July 16, at Greenmead Historical Park’s Alexander Blue House. Step back into time and experience the common threads that weave our lives together. Register online in advance for $5 per person. Walk-ins will be accepted based on availability.
