New High Fitness Class Kicks Off with Three Free Demos

Join instructors Staci and Christine for a sweat blast with nostalgic and fun music from all decades and genres that will motivate you to the max! Our new High Fitness class will have FREE demos from 7-8 p.m. Mondays Aug. 9, 16 and 30 in the Aerobics Studio. They’ll feature simple and easy-to-follow fitness choreography in an interval training format that takes you through a variety of cardio movements, toning, core work and upper-body work. Take it high or low; options given for all levels of fitness in this new energetic, fun and inspiring class.

The demo classes are free to all (non-members would still need to purchase a day pass for facility access) before the program joins our lineup this fall. Click here for fall registration details.

Lifeguard Certification Coming Up Aug. 14-16

Interested in getting paid to spend the days poolside? Are you a strong swimmer looking to put that skill to good use? Become a certified lifeguard! We’ll be hosting a Red Cross lifeguard training course from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday-Monday, Aug. 14-16, at the Kirksey Recreation Center. Trainees must attend all three days.

The $175 fee is waived IF you’ll be lifeguarding for Livonia Parks and Recreation. Ages 15 and older are welcome. Contact Stephanie at smanoogian@livonia.gov or (734) 466-2925 for more information or to register.

Girls lacing up to try hockey

Try Hockey for Free Aug. 11

If the Detroit Red Wings’ recent draft picks and trades have your hockey interest ready for the winter months, and you have a son or daughter between the ages of 4-12, why not have them give hockey a try? Join the Livonia Hockey Association 5:30 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 11, at Eddie Edgar Ice Arena (33481 Lyndon) for a Try Hockey for Free event. Get on the ice, burn off some energy and see if there’s a new sport they’ll love. Skates and sticks will be available to borrow, but please bring your own helmet (bike helmets will work!). First-time players who register with the LHA for the fall season are eligible to receive a discount on a full equipment package for the coming season.

If they like the Try Hockey for Free event, but aren’t ready to dive into a fall season yet, give them a little more of a taste with Ready Set Play; a four-session series of 50-minute classes for $50. The four sessions will run 6 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 17; 6 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 19; 6 p.m. Monday Aug. 23; and 5:30 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 25.

Visit LivoniaHockey.org for more information on both the Try Hockey for Free event and Ready Set Play class, as well as the fall season.
