Create Your Own Art For the Holidays

Get in touch with your inner artist this holiday season and maybe get crafty with some gifts.

Join us 6-9 p.m. Fridays, Nov. 19 and Dec. 10, or 9 a.m. to noon Sundays, Nov. 28 and Dec. 19, to experience the Joy of Painting the Bob Ross Way. Learn to paint your own landscape from a frozen forest to a snow-tipped mountainside. Click to see the images you'll be painting yourself or to register.

Children ages 18 months-6 years can also get in on the art action with our new KidCreate workshops. Create an ornament from clay and paint 9:30-10:30 a.m. Monday, Dec. 13, at the Kirksey Recreation Center.

Ball of holiday lights

Help Us Light Up Livonia This December With Bright Displays

Livonia Parks and Recreation and the Livonia Chamber of Commerce are proud to announce the return of the Light Up Livonia Holiday Lights Contest! The contest is open to all residences and businesses in Livonia who register by Monday, Dec. 5. Mayor Maureen Miller Brosnan will pick three residences, a Clark Griswold award winner and one business with the best holiday decorations. Mayor Brosnan and Santa Claus will visit the winners to deliver the awards on Tuesday, Dec. 21, in the evening.

Register online and indicate if you would like to be part of the Light Up Livonia Holiday Lights Map. Not participating in the contest, but want to check out the lights? Visit LivoniaParks.org starting Dec. 5 to view the map of participating locations that will be on display citywide through at least Dec. 25.

Child kicking ball into FootGolf hole

Frozen FootGolf is Coming to a Park Near You This Winter

If you like soccer and golf, or even just one or the other, you may enjoy our new Frozen FootGolf Tour this winter. Imagine going hole to hole like a golf course, but by kicking a soccer ball into large holes instead of hitting a golf ball into small holes with a club. That’s FootGolf.

We’ll have three courses set up at Bicentennial Park Dec. 11, Ford Field Jan. 15 and Rotary Park Feb. 5. Register for one Saturday or all three and vie for prizes, awarded to the top finishers in each age bracket for each park and for the overall tour. Start times run between 10 a.m. and 1 p.m. Register via LivoniaParks.org, visit Livonia.gov/421 or email Ethan at eengel@livonia.gov for more information.
