History Lecture Series - Sojourner Truth

Join us at the Alexander Blue House on Monday, Feb. 14, at 2 p.m. as we welcome Mary Johnson Grant, member of the Detroit Story League and the National Association of Black Storytellers. A former enslaved woman, Sojourner Truth became an outspoken advocate for abolition, temperance, and civil and women’s rights in the 19th century. This is a free program, no registration required.

Put on your dancing shoes and join us on Thursday, Feb. 24, from 7-9 p.m. at the Alexander Blue House as we celebrate and learn about African American Michiganders' contributions to the sounds and movements of America. This evening will include song, dance, and history, and will be a fun night out for all ages. Advanced registration is required.

Join us on Saturday, March 12, from noon-3 p.m. as we celebrate Women's History Month! This program for children ages 6-12 includes learning about the Michigan women who built the Arsenal of Democracy and coloring a plane glider to take home. Kids will also enjoy snacks popular in the 1940s. Advanced registration required, $15 per child resident, $18 per child non-resident.
