Join Our Team This Summer as a Camp Counselor or Lifeguard

If you’re looking for a summer job that’s fun and allows you to both get some sun and save some money before returning to school in the fall, keep reading.

We are hiring for our 2022 summer camp season as we’re looking to bring on new camp counselors for Camp Swoosh and the Playground Program. Pay was raised to $13.60 per hour, there’s a $500 bonus after 90 days and you get a free membership to the Kirksey Recreation Center for the summer. Questions? Email Billy at wkeppen@livonia.gov.

We’re also looking to add more lifeguards to our arsenal so we can keep as many of our five pools open and running at full capacity for as much of the summer as possible. We’re running certification courses monthly, with the February and March courses already building up waiting lists. Pay was raised to $14.30 per hour with the same bonus and perks as mentioned above. Questions? Email Stephanie at smanoogian@livonia.gov.

The summer roles with Livonia Parks and Recreation help build a lot of life skills regardless of what career path you head down. They also create lifelong friendships and fun memories. Visit LivoniaParks.org for a full list of part-time positions (both seasonal and year-round) and how to apply.

New Medieval Longsword classes Join Winter II Repertoire Feb. 27

New program alert! The Michigan Medieval Combat Association (HEMA) will be offering Medieval Longsword classes in the Kirksey Recreation Center Aerobics Room 1-3 p.m. Sundays starting Feb. 27.

Participants of all skill levels will study the fighting techniques described and illustrated in manuscripts from the 14th-15th Century. Wooden, synthetic/plastic and blunt steel swords will be used (do NOT bring any sharp swords!). These are one-time enrollment classes where attendees can drop in whichever days they want, or they can register in advance for the full month at a time. Register here.

Winter II session programs begin the week of Feb. 27. Sign up for your favorite classes before they fill up!
100 Days to Health Logo

100 Days to Health Begins Sunday

Healthy Livonia’s 100 Days to Health is just five days away, kicking off 9-11:30 a.m. Sunday, Feb. 27.

Whether you’re a regular at the Kirksey Recreation Center or just looking to test the waters, you won’t find a better deal. For the $60 adult registration fee ($95 family, $55 ages 62+), you’ll gain access to 100 days’ worth of classes and events, which could be as many as four classes on some weekdays. Say you’re attending an average of two activities per day for all 100 days and you’d only be paying about 30 cents per class! Even if you only did three activities per week, it’d only cost $2 per class; not to mention all the giveaway items you receive as part of signing up.

This is a great opportunity to test out new classes and different instructors so you can plan ahead for what classes you may want to enjoy for the rest of the year. Sign up today!
