Party Like the Great Gatsby Oct. 8 at Greenmead

Get ready for a bee’s knees day of 1920s fun! Greenmead Historical Park’s beautiful historic Simmons-Hill House and gardens will serve as our Gatsby Garden Party site from 11 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 8.

Play 1920s lawn games, dance to Jazz music, take your picture at the paper moon and immerse yourself in times gone by. Historic apparel is encouraged! You can bring your own food, or purchase from our vendor's food truck. Register today to join in on the experience.

Full Fall of History, Silent Cinema Being Presented at Greenmead

Mark your calendars for a great fall history lecture series at Greenmead Historical Park. Learn about Diego Rivera's local murals that have been declared a National Historic Landmark 2 p.m. Sept. 19, get a heady history on Michigan beer 7 p.m. Oct. 3 and learn how Michigan's auto industry in World War I became a dress rehearsal for the arsenal of Democracy 2 p.m. Nov. 15.

Greenmead will also be hosting a Silent Cinema of the Mitten State series as we look at silent film and early American cartooning before viewing "Eleven PM" 7 p.m. Oct. 6, actresses and
female screenwriters who broke onto the scene in the 1910s and '20s before viewing "Ella Cinders" 7 p.m. Nov. 3, and a Michigan-native animator of Walt Disney and two holiday shorts from a Port Huron film innovator 12:30 p.m. Dec. 10.

No registration necessary for the history lecture dates, but register in advance for the film series at Greenmead.us 30 days before the event date.

If you’re still looking to get your little girl signed up for fall soccer, there may still be time! Michigan Hawks Soccer Club’s Youth Academy for 2013-19 birth years is still registering female players. Hurry though, as the kids start kicking Sept. 7 at Jaycee Park.
