SENIOR NUTRITION PROGRAMS

Services listed below are local options available to seniors. Most are offered independently by third-party organizations and are not coordinated by the City of Livonia. Additional resources can be found here.

Hot Meal PROGRAMS

The Hot Meals and Meals-on-Wheels program return Monday, May 9. Hot meals will be served Mondays and Tuesdays at the Civic Park Senior Center, with a three-pack of frozen meals delivered Thursdays to cover Wednesday-Friday meals each week. Reservations will be required in advance and the suggested donation will remain $3 for seniors ages 60 and older, and $6 for non-seniors ages 59 and younger. An advance 24-hour reservation is required by signing up online or calling (734) 466-2555 weekdays between 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. Meals-on-Wheels details are listed below.

WAYNE COUNTY NUTRITION PROGRAMS

Wayne County Nutrition Services make available three basic nutrition programs to persons, ages 60 and older. Home-Delivered (Meals-on-Wheels) are hot meals are delivered by a volunteer on weekdays. A cold meal can be provided for the evening meal. Referrals can be made by a physician, visiting nurse, family member, friend or client. Referrals are accepted at (800) 851-1454 or (734) 326-5202.

CONGREGATE MEALS / 5-PACK MEAL PICK-UP

The Wayne County Office of Senior Nutrition is offering 5-packs of frozen shelf-stable meals. The meal packs are distributed each Monday from 10 a.m. to noon to seniors age 60 and older. Congregate meal participants can pick up the packs at the Livonia Senior Citizens Center, 15218 Farmington Road.

To reserve a 5-pack meal, please call (734) 326-5202 and select option 3 to leave a message. Upon arrival at the distribution site, a Congregate Meal Participant form must be completed and you will be asked if you wish to reserve a 5-pack meal box for the following week

LIQUID NUTRITION

This nutrition program provides one to two liquid meals a day to those seniors who are experiencing difficulty swallowing solid food due to debilitating disease or condition. A physician must complete the Wayne County Nutrition Services medical form indicating the person’s need for liquid meals. The eligible client or representative must be responsible for picking up the liquid nutrition at a designated site. For program information, call (800) 851-1454 or (734) 326-5202.

FOCUS: HOPE

Focus: Hope distributes prepackaged food boxes monthly to income-eligible senior residents ages 60+. Referrals to this program are accepted at the Livonia Senior Center at (734) 466-2557.

THE EMERGENCY FOOD ASSISTANCE PROGRAM (TEFAP) IN LIVONIA

TEFAP is a program for low-income Livonia residents in need of food. Food is distributed once a month. Please call (734) 634-4935 or visit our web page.

COMMODITY FOOD PROGRAM

The Commodity Food Program distributes U.S.D.A. surplus commodity food items monthly to income-eligible senior residents. Call Community Resources at (734) 466-2673 for referrals to this program.

MICAFE

MiCafe is a federal food assistance program that provides assistance to seniors, age 60 or older applying for a bridge card. The bridge card helps seniors pay for their food. Referrals to this program are accepted at (877) 664-2233.
