Volunteer Program
Have a Ball!
Volunteer with the Livonia Parks and Recreation Department.
If you have an interest in Recreation, Leisure Activities, or Special Events and enjoy working with people, we have a place for you! Full descriptions of the following programs will be given at Orientation Part 1.
For all programs, the minimum age is 18. No prior experience is required. We will provide all the training you need!
Come out and play! Be a Parks and Recreation volunteer!
There are three steps to becoming a Livonia Parks and Recreation volunteer:
- Attend Volunteer Orientation Part 1
- Complete an interview
- Attend Volunteer Orientation Part 2
Volunteer Orientation
Volunteer Orientation is a general overview of our program focusing on the opportunities available at the Livonia Parks and Recreation Department. The agenda includes welcome and introductions, a short history of the Livonia Parks and Recreation Department and the opportunity to sign up for an interview. Light refreshments are served.
Process
An individual, informal interview will take place to help us place you in the volunteer opportunity of your choice. Paperwork, such as a background check, will be completed. A choice of appointment times will be offered during the week following Orientation Part 1.
Once you are sure of your interest in a Livonia Parks and Recreation opportunity, the last step is Volunteer Orientation Part 2. This includes information on emergency preparedness, the mission and volunteer policies and procedures. Light snacks are served. Orientations must be attended in order.
You may attend both orientations on the same day (when available) if you choose. Part 2 is required before being able to volunteer and is required of all volunteers within three months of their interview.
To reserve your seat at the orientation to learn more about opportunities at the Livonia Parks and Recreation Department, please complete and return the Volunteer Profile (PDF). Training dates will be determined once your Profile is received.
SPECIAL EVENTS VOLUNTEERS
The Livonia Parks and Recreation Department needs help with a variety of jobs during our special event activities throughout the year. Arts and crafts, helping with games and assisting with set up and clean up are typical activities. If you enjoy interacting with children and meeting new people, you can help us as a Special Events Volunteer. Special Events include: Holiday Tree Lighting, Lunch with Santa, New Year’s Eve Celebration, Daddy Daughter Dance, Mother Son Dance, Bunny Brunch, Egg Hunt Haunted Barn and more throughout the year!
KIRKSEY RECREATION CENTER AMBASSADOR
This job is for a real "People Person". Greeting and welcoming visitors to the Recreation Center, assisting with directions to areas, sharing news of the day regarding classes and events, all of these and more fall under the Kirksey Recreation Center Ambassador job description. As diplomats of our customer service, they do it all with a smile!
